Shopify development — a storefront built to convert, not a theme buried under apps

Custom Shopify themes, Online Store 2.0 sections, headless Hydrogen, custom apps, checkout work, and migrations from WooCommerce or Magento.

🛍️ SHOPIFY DEVELOPMENT

★ Custom Liquid themes · Online Store 2.0 sections and metaobjects · Headless Hydrogen builds · Custom apps and integrations · Checkout and conversion work · WooCommerce and Magento migrations · Shopify Plus

Open the admin of a store that has been running a few years and the pattern is familiar. A marketplace theme two versions behind, edited by three different freelancers. A dozen apps, each injecting its own script into every page. A monthly app bill that quietly outgrew the hosting it replaced. And a product page that takes longer to paint than a shopper on a train will wait.

Shopify is excellent infrastructure. The problem is almost never the platform; it is a storefront assembled from other people's parts, with nobody accountable for what the customer actually experiences.

What Shopify development means in our hands

Custom themes, built as sections your team controls. We build in Liquid on Online Store 2.0: sections everywhere, blocks, metafields and metaobjects. Your merchandiser assembles a campaign landing page from components we built for your brand, without a page builder app and without opening a ticket. The markup stays ours, so does the performance.

Apps get audited, not accumulated. Every app is rent plus render cost. Where a feature is core to how you sell, we build it into the theme or as a custom app you own. Where an app genuinely earns its place, it stays and gets loaded properly instead of blocking the page.

Checkout is engineering, not decoration. On Shopify Plus that means Checkout Extensibility and Shopify Functions for discounts, shipping and payment rules. On standard plans it means working every part you do control: cart behaviour, shipping and tax clarity before the final step, express payment placement, form friction, and the whole path tested on a mid-range phone rather than a desk monitor.

What a typical engagement includes

  • Discovery on catalogue structure, variants, merchandising rhythm and fulfilment reality
  • A custom theme in Liquid on Online Store 2.0, with metafields and metaobjects for structured content
  • Product, collection, cart and account templates designed mobile first
  • An app audit with a keep, replace or build recommendation for each one
  • Integrations wired through the Admin GraphQL API and webhooks: ERP, 3PL, email and SMS, reviews, subscriptions, accounting
  • A custom app where nothing off the shelf fits your operation
  • Migration from WooCommerce, Magento, BigCommerce or an older Shopify theme: products, customers, order history and redirects
  • Analytics and conversion instrumentation, plus a post-launch tuning window
  • Documentation and merchandiser training, so the team can run campaigns without us

The approach and the stack

Theme code lives in git and ships through Shopify CLI and preview themes, so changes are reviewed and reversible rather than edited live. No jQuery pile, no stacked script tags, and the same Lighthouse 95+ and WCAG 2.1 AA targets we hold every Redenn build to.

For headless we use Hydrogen and React on Oxygen, or a Next.js front end against the Storefront API when the store is one part of a larger site. Headless buys real control over rendering and content, and costs more to build and operate. We say which one your catalogue and team actually warrant before quoting, not after.

What this looks like in practice

Two shapes most engagements take.

A replatform. A brand outgrows WooCommerce plugin sprawl or a Magento build nobody wants to maintain. We map the catalogue and URL structure first, migrate products, customers and order history, build the custom theme, and put a redirect map in place so hard-won SEO equity moves with the store rather than evaporating on launch day.

A headless or Plus build. A content-led brand wants editorial, lookbooks and commerce in one fast experience, or a Plus merchant needs checkout logic, B2B pricing or bundling that a theme alone cannot express. Hydrogen or a Next.js storefront handles the front end; Functions and custom apps handle the rules. This is the same discipline as our webapps practice, pointed at a store.

Pricing

Shopify work is scoped per project. A custom theme on an existing catalogue and a headless Plus build with an ERP integration behind it are different animals, and a published rate card would flatter one and mislead the other. After a short call you get a fixed price scope in writing. Contact us for a quote; ongoing tuning and campaign support can ride on a Care Plan.

Ready when you are

Send your store URL and tell us where you think it leaks. We will look at speed, mobile flow, app load and checkout path, and come back within four business hours with an honest read on whether a rebuild pays for itself or a targeted fix will do. Start with a free store audit, or see recent work.
